I am a visual artist who loves to work with paper, whether I am creating my greeting cards or rendering works of art in pencil … I love working with paper. Each greeting card is created from my imagination and made entirely by hand. I enjoy the entire creative process from first inspiration to designing a layout, choosing just the right colors and textures, to actually putting the card together, piece by piece, layer by layer for a truly one-of–a-kind card.
In addition, I also render works of art in graphite and colored pencils. From a very young age, I was always drawing anything I saw. To this day, I always have a sketchbook and some pencils with me wherever I go … since you never know when inspiration will strike.
I am a graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York City, a member of the Colored Pencil Society of America and have over 35 years of experience.
I get most of my inspiration from nature and am blessed to find beauty in almost everything. I sketch whatever I can, whenever I can. There is something about moving the pencil across the paper, sometimes layering as many as four or five colors on top of each other to get just the right color and to create just the right effect that is extremely satisfying.
Initially, I concentrated on my pencil sketches and artworks but was always open to new ideas. I decided to turn my artwork into greeting cards, since they were detailed, miniature works of art. They began as my drawings turned into cards. Then I discovered the beautiful textures of paper, and started creating greeting cards with multiple layers, even adding other materials like fabric, string, lace or cork creating small, collage works of art. With my love of paper shining through again, I started quilling, curling small strips of paper and molding them into shapes. These became not just cards but one-of-a-kind crafted paper creations.
More recently, I have returned to my pencil artworks, looking at sketches, past and present, and turning them into rendered works of art. No matter what medium I am working in, there is a similar process: initial idea, sketching a layout, choosing the right papers and pencils and spending time with each project as a work of art … I am passionate about the process of creating.
